Elmo “Terry” Ghent age 70, of Fairfield, passed away August 16, 2018, at his home.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with funeral service to start at 1:00 pm Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Brummel officiating. Cremation to follow and burial of cremains will be at a later date.
Memorials can be made to Iowa Children’s Hospital and may be mailed to 110 N. 2nd St. Marshalltown, Iowa 50158.
Terry was born August 3, 1948, in Newton to Elmo H. and Isle L. (Danley) Ghent. He married Kathryn M. (Creps) on May 18, 1985. They later divorced.
Terry received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Northeast Missouri State University. He has lived in Fairfield since 1972. Terry taught special ed and coached wrestling at Cardinal school district from 1972 to 1985. In 1985 he started working for the Fairfield School District and taught special ed and was a track coach until 2005 when he retired.
Terry loved golfing, exercising, walking, running, coaching youth sports and listing to music. He attended the First Presbyterian Church.
Terry is survived by children Mallori Ghent of Marshalltown and Wilson “Willie” Ghent of Fairfield; and one sister, Janet (James) Pickett of Mitchellville.
Terry was preceded by his parents.
