Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 24, at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Newton for John Holland, 12, one of two boys killed in an automobile accident in southeast Des Moines which occurred while the boys were enroute to a Little League baseball game in Indianola.
John was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Holland Jr. of Newton and the grandson on Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Worthy and Mrs. Irene Holland, all of Grinnell.
Burial will be in Newton Cemetery with Loehr Funeral Home Chapel in charge of arrangements. Memorials to the Little League may be sent to the Loehr Funeral Home Chapel.
The fatal automobile accident occurred at the intersection of Southeast Fourteenth Street and Army Post Road in Des Moines when the station wagon in which John Holland was riding, which was stopped at a stop light, was hit by a northbound car that went out of control. The station wagon was part of a five-car caravan of Little League baseball players from Newton that was going to a tournament game in Indianola.
Also killed in the accident was Randy Patterson, also 12. Seven other persons were injured.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, John is survived by a brother and sister, both at home.
