Howard J. Vaughn Dies on Friday; Services Tuesday
Howard J. Vaughn, 68, of 505 E 14th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1974, died Friday afternoon at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Reese Chapel in Newton. The Rev. Eldon Pals, pastor of the Monroe Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Immanuel Baptist Church Memorial Fund will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the church or the Reese Funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Alice; a step-daughter, Mrs. Jack (RoseAnn) Byers of Grinnell; three step-grandchildren, three cousins; and an aunt. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Vaughn, who had served in the Army in World War II, was member of the Knoxville American Legion. Mr. Vaughn had been a nurse's assistant at the Knoxville Veterans Administration Hospital for 31 years, retiring in 1974. The son of Allen and Myrtle Vaughn, he was born June 27, 1911 at Knoxville and attended Knoxville schools. He was married to Alice Breuklander Zickel April 29, 1972.
