Additional information from findagrave.com:
John was left an orphan when he was 2 years old. His parents who came to the United States from Switzerland in 1883, both died in 1892. They left John and his 4 siblings orphaned. The youngest child was adopted by a local family, but they did not have any relatives in this country and therefore the rest of children were sent to the Western Orphan Asylum and Educational Institute, in Warrenton, MO, which later became the Central Wesleyan Orphan Home. They remained there until they reached adulthood.
John married Mary Anna Schenk on Jan. 26, 1920 in Halstead, Harvey County, KS. They were the parents of Dorothy Louise and William John.
