Chad Eugene Burkett, 30, of Montezuma, a native of Grinnell, died Sunday, Dec. 2, of injuries he sustained in an automobile accident near Luling, La.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Grover Branson officiating. Organist will be Margaret Wheeler. Pallbearers will be Allan Burkett, Shane Burkett, Tom Chiarito, Brian Kinkle, Mike Kriegel and Jason Pollock. Honorary bearers will be Paul Asberry, Donny Crawford, Gabe Neighbors and Mike Owens. Burial will be at Rock Creek Cemetery.
The son of Carroll “Gene” Burkett and Vickie Lee Elliott Henderson, he was born April 1, 1971 in Grinnell. He was a 1989 graduate of Grinnell High School. While in high school he participated in sports, including the Golden Gloves. He placed eighth in the 1989 state diving meet.
Mr. Burkett was employed most recently by Pasadena Tank Co. as a welding supervisor. He oversaw the building of large storage tanks and hydropillers. His work had taken him throughout the United States.
Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Allan of Newton and Shane of Grinnell; two sisters, Deanna Owens of Raytown, Mo., and Stephanie Chiarito of Chicago; and his grandparents, Hollis and Addie Elliott of Grinnell.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ronald McDonald house in Iowa City or the American Lung Association.
