Kenneth L. Phipps, 39, of 201 Third St., Searsboro, died of a blood disorder Monday, Oct. 8, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Revs. Troy Stein and Sam Reaves officiating. Music will be provided by Betty Ann Battey, pianist, and Bill Surbrug, vocalist. Casket bearers were Curt, Dave, Duane, Glenn, Kenny, Mary, Sean and Wade Phipps and Chris Vitek. Burial was at Rock Creek Cemetery.
He was born Feb. 4, 1962, in Grinnell to Bert and Maxine Large Phipps. He was raised in Grinnell and Searsboro and attended schools in those communities. He also attended Lynnville-Sully High School.
Following his education he worked for the Robintech Co. in Grinnell. For a few years, he was coordinator for the Summer Youth Employment Program in Searsboro, and he received a citation from the state for his work. For the past few years, he worked as a receptionist at the Mayflower Health Care Center, and he received an award from the Iowa Nursing Home Association as Support Staff Member of the Year.
Surviving are his mother and five brothers, Wade, Curt and Dave, all of Searsboro, and Duane and Glenn, both of Grinnell.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Bertie and Danny.
