Funeral services for Bette R. Vold Hale, 66, of 314 E. 20th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1957, were held today, Oct. 14, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Jerome Egel, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth.

Visitation with the family was held Sunday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Memorials to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church may be left at the funeral home.

She died Friday morning at University Hospitals in Iowa City of respiratory failure.

Surviving are her husband, Robert; two sons, the Rev. James of Irvine, Calif., and John of Incline Village, Nev.; two daughters, Barb (Mrs. Gordon) Thompson and Kathy (Mrs. Ray) Haynes, both of West Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild.

Also surviving are two brothers, Porter Vold and Grant Vold, both of Story City; and a sister, Esther (Mrs. Richard) Brock of Woolstock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Clifford, Robert and Sterling, and two sisters, Viola Collins and Ardyce Anderson.

Mrs. Hale, a receptionist at Associated Dentists, was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

The daughter of Axel A. and Mae Swenson Vold, she was born Nov. 18, 1924 at Ellsworth and was a 1942 graduate of Ellsworth High School.

She was married to Robert Hale Nov. 15, 1946 in Ellsworth. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 14 Oct 1991.
