John L. Cross

COLFAX - Funeral services for John L. Cross, 96, who lived almost his entire life in the farm home in which he was born, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. Michael Orthel, pastor of the Colfax United Methodist Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday and family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Arthritis Foundation may be left at the funeral home.

Mr. Cross, a farmer and army veteran of World War I, died Sunday at Careage of Newton of which he had been a resident two weeks.

Survivors are a daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Harry) Kaldenberg of Urbandale and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two half-brothers, two half-sisters, a brother and a grandson.

Mr. Cross served on the Poweshiek Township rural School Board, served as township assessor for 10 years and was an area sales representative for Cargill seed co.

The son of David and Alice Mowry Cross, he was born July 29, 1895 near Colfax.

He as married to Rhea Anthony June 22, 1917. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Tues 1 Oct 1991.
