Fred P. Petrie
March 17, 1945 ~ September 9, 2016 (age 71)

Fred P. Petrie, 71, of Kellogg, died on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Skiff Medical Center. A Celebration of Life service will be held for Fred at the First United Methodist Church in Newton on Wednesday, September 14. Burial will be at a later date in the Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials in Fred’s name may be left at the church on the day of the service or mailed to the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. If mailed please include Attn: Petrie Family on the envelope.

Fred, the son of Rachel Stanley, was born on March 17, 1945 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He grew up in the Prairie City and Colfax areas, graduating from Prairie City High School in 1963. He moved to Kellogg where he would reside for 23 years. Fred was united in marriage with Naomi Rawlins on November 28, 1964 at the Jasper County Courthouse, until her death on April 9 of 2013. On August 11, 2014 Fred was united in marriage to Shirley Cartwright at the First United Methodist Church in Newton.

Fred worked for the United Phone Company for 30 years. He loved to square dance and was a member of the Pioneer Square Dance Club. He was also a member of the Izaak Walton League, and the Pony Express. Fred enjoyed fishing, collecting ducks, and playing cards.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Shirley Petrie of Kellogg; his children: Marla Stevens of Kellogg, Penny Petrie-Stevens of Newton, Mary (Will) Petrie-Sliger of Newton, and Fred Jr. (Yvette) Petrie of Newton; his step-children: Paula (David) Mattison of Kansas City, MO, Shelly (Les) Overstreet of Columbia, MO, and Shawn Montavy of Overland Park, MO; siblings: Raymond Hopkins of Kellogg, Dorothy (Hopkins) Talbot of Grinnell, and Joe (Flo) Hopkins from Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Rachel Stanley; first wife, Naomi (Rawlins) Petrie; brother, Ronnie and sister, Norma; and Uncle Fred Stanley. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 9 Sept 2016.
