Edna Shipley Services Today

Edna M. Highley Shipley, 93, of Colfax, a lifelong resident of Colfax, and Colfax librarian for 25 years, died Monday, Feb. 8, at her home.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, Feb. 11), at 11 a.m., at the Colfax United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Orthel will conduct services. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.

The soloist will be JoAnn Orthel, and the organist will be Pat Evans.

Casket bearers are William Ward, Richard Ward, Robert Ward, James Ward, Mark Grosvenor, and Steven Gibson.

Memorials to the Colfax United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa will be accepted.

Survivors are a daughter, Alice Ward of Colfax; three sons, William Grosvenor of Abilene, Texas; Donald Grosvenor of Colfax, and Howard Grosvenor of Bella Vista, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mae Williams of Yucaipa, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Howard Highley, and a sister, Rose Lawhorn, Feb. 3, 1993.

She was a member of the Colfax United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Shipley was a Past Matron of the Rose of Sharon Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Colfax and was currently a member of the Newton Chapter #100.

The daughter of Alva A. and Carrie Hibbs Highley, she was born June 30, 1899 in Mitchellville and was a 1918 graduate of Colfax Community High School.

She was married to Howard Shipley. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Thursday, February 11, 1993.
