Services Held For Prairie City Dentist

Donald Wilson Van Voorhis, son of Clyde Randolph and Sarah Bell Hickey Van Voorhis, was born December 9, 1908, at Swae City, Iowa, where he resided until the age of four.

He entered into rest on Thursday, April 6, at his home in Prairie City at the age of 69 years.

He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1927 and received his degree in dentistry from the University of Iowa in 1932.

On Jun 11, 1938, he was united in marriage to Marie Rodgers at Kirksville, Missouri. They made their home in Prairie City where he practiced dentistry.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Robert G. (Virginia Lynn) Smits; a son-in-law, Robert G. Smits; and two grandchildren, Lynn and _even Smits, all of West Des Moines, Iowa.

He was a member of the Prairie City American Legion. Past Master of the Preston Lodge #218, a member of Scottish Rite, Consistory, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and the Christian Church.

He was a charter member and past president of the Lions Club and a life member of the American Dental Association.

He also served on the Prairie City School Board and on the Medical Clinic Committee.

Services were held Sunday, April 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Prairie City with rev. Oren Reger officiating.

Interment was in Waveland cemetery in Prairie City with graveside military services by the Prairie City American Legion. ~ probably The Jasper County Tribune, Thursday April 13, 1978
