William "Bill" Evans Rites Held April 24

William D. "Bill" Evans, 76, of 611 E. 2nd St. S., Newton, a former resident of Colfax, died Wednesday, April 21, at the Newton Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. Michael Orthel, pastor of the Colfax United Methodist Church, conducted services.

Pat Evans was the organist.

Casket bearers were Donald Evans, Jim Pratt, Donald Russell, Donald Brown, Charles Wilson, and Ronald Gulling.

Honorary bearers were Richard Mindham, Everett Wilson, Robert Clark, Royal Cross, Lester Allen, and Frank Annis.

In charge of flowers were Donna Thompson and Leona Barackman.

Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Louise; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank J. and Joyce Evans of St. Paul, Minn.; three grandchildren; a brother, Frank B. of Colfax; and a sister, Maude Bauer of Prairie City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Evans, a longtime meat cutter in the Des Moines and Colfax communities, had served in the Army in Germany and France during World War II.

The son of John and Mary Jane Mable Evans, he was born June 3, 1916, in Colfax and was a 1934 graduate of Colfax Community High School.

He was married to Louise Mindham in 1945 in Des Moines. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Colfax, Iowa, Thursday, April 29, 1993
