Byal, William Roscoe – 1906-1991

William Roscoe Byal, the son of W. J. and Mittle Miller Byal, was born August 29, 1906, in Mingo, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Mingo Community School and attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Roscoe farmed in the Mingo area, prior to retiring and moving to Newton, Iowa, in 1981.
On March 12, 1932, Roscoe was united in marriage with Elna Walters in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a member of the St. Luke United Methodist Church in Newton and the Unit Masonic Lodge #520 of Baxter, Iowa.
Death came to Roscoe Saturday evening, October 5, 1991, at the Careage of Newton. He had reached the age of 85 years, 1 month, 6 days. Roscoe was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William Byal; and two sisters, Wilda Byal and Geneva Byal.
Those left to honor Roscoe’s memory include his wife, Elna of Newton; his son, Douglas Craig Byal of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his five grandchildren: Cindy, Mrs. Steve Comer; Jim Byal; Virginia, Mrs. Craig Petermeier; Derrick Byal and Daniel Byal; his three great-grandchildren: Steve Comer, Lindsay Petermeier and Jonathan Petermeier; and his brother, Hugh Byal of Mingo.
Masonic service held at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home on Monday, October 7, 1991 at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services held at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home Tuesday, October 8, 1991 at 10:00 a.m., conducted by Rev. Paul Wilcox, pastor, St. Luke United Methodist Church in Newton, Iowa. Pall bearers were Derrick Byal, Dan Byal, Wayne Byal, Steve Comer, Craig Petermeier and Jim Byal. Interment was at Union Chap Cemetery in rural Ira.
