Brother of Resident Died
Clyde Rawlins, 84, of Newton Health Care Center, a resident of the Galesburg community from 1929 until moving to Newton in 1989, died Friday morning, January 22, at the Skiff Medical Center of heart failure.Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 25, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Bill Adams, associate pastor, of the Community Heights Alliance church, conducted services. Burial was in Hewitt Cemetery in rural Reasnor.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are a step-son, Francis E. Wheeler of Newton; three daughters, Beverly Rawlins, Doris (Mrs. Ken) Clausen and Lois Zimmerman, all of Newton; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Archie of Monroe and Charlie of Colfax.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gelene in 1979, a stepson, a granddaughter in infancy; three brothers, Albert, Frank, and Virgil, and four sisters, Myrtle, Ruth, Daisy and Anise.
Mr. Rawlins had worked as a repairman at the Maytag Co. for 19 years, retiring in 1971.
The son of Albert and Mary Rawlins, he was born Sept. 11, 1908 in Missouri and attended Iowa rural schools.
He was married to Gelene D. Wheeler Nov. 13, 1929 in Newton. ~ The Colfax Tribune, Colfax, Iowa, Thursday, January 28, 1993
