Beverly “Bev” Gae Cross, 84 of Baxter passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Church. Burial in Union Chapel Cemetery will follow.

Bev was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on September, 16, 1930 to George and Mildred (Morrison) Decker. She attended and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1948. Not long after graduation she married Richard Cross on June 5, 1949, in Marshalltown, Iowa. The couple resided in Baxter where they raised their family. Bev worked for various doctors’ offices and spent her later years as the Director of the Jasper County Museum. She was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter and most recently greatly enjoyed the Bible study sessions there. Bev was very active in her community and chaired the Baxter Centennial Committee, she was on the ambulance team for many years, she was a Girl Scout leader for 30 years and trained leaders for an additional 10 years, she judged dolls at the county fair, and she spent more than 20 years with the Sweet Adelines of Marshalltown. Bev had a great love for her family and spending time with them, she enjoyed her time at exercise and coffee with the local Baxter ladies, writing poetry, genealogy and making miniature room replica pieces of historical places, co-authoring several poetry and genealogy books, and she plotted out every cemetery in Jasper County.

Those left to cherish her loving memories are her daughter Joellen, son Steven (Kristine), five grandchildren, Racheal, Lindsey, Sara, Michael, and Elena; 4 great-grandchildren, Thea, Astrid, Kiva, and Anderson; brother William (JoAnn) Decker, sisters Donna Allee, and Mary Jo (Ronald) West, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 64 years, infant daughter Nancy, and infant son John.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
