Johnny Kennedy Kling, 86, of Baxter died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Park Centre Care Center in Newton. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, April 20 at the Baxter United Congregational Church of Christ. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. Memorials in Johnny’s name to be used for the Baxter Education Foundation may be left at the church or the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Johnny, the daughter of Charles Robert and Jessie (Vaughan) Kennedy, was born July 17, 1928, in Monroe County, Ala. She grew up in Alabama and graduated from Camden High School. Johnny later moved to Florida where she met her future husband, Richard D. Kling, who was stationed there for the service. Johnny moved to Iowa where Richard was from and they were united in marriage on March 3, 1951, in Des Moines. Johnny worked as a telephone engineer for many years for the telephone company in Des Moines, retiring in 1983, from Northwestern Bell. She was an active member of Baxter UCC, where she met every Tuesday morning for coffee and also volunteered many hours in the kitchen. Johnny was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Pink Ribbon Support Group. She was a fabulous cook, known for her fried chicken and homemade biscuits. She also enjoyed shopping, reading and traveling.

Those left to celebrate Johnny’s life are her daughter, Suzan (Bill) Luing of Baxter; three grandchildren, Jolynda Luing (Brian Davies) of Baxter, William “Pud” Luing of Baxter, and Robin (Jason) Argo of Des Moines; her six great-grandchildren, Brittaney Davies, Nichole Davies, Dakota O’Harra, Lexi Argo, Jayci Argo and Jacob Argo; and siblings, David (Brenda) Kennedy of Birmingham, Ala., and Kay Smith of Abilene, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; daughter, Nancy Miles; great-granddaughter, Brooke Luing; and her other siblings. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa 16 Apr 2015.
