Lu Soter, 92, of Des Moines, Iowa died peacefully on April 2, 2015 at Mercy Hospice Johnston following a fall in her home. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, 35th and Cottage Grove, Des Moines, Iowa. A visitation will take place at the church at 9:00 AM just prior to the service.

Lu was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Theodore and Jenny Staikos on January 25, 1923. Lu grew up in Newton, Iowa, went to Newton High School and graduated in 1941. She went on to marry Paul Soter. They lived in Rockford, Illinois and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona, but after Paul's passing, she moved into the Elsie Mason Manor where she has lived since 1991.

There she met fellow resident Jack Linderman who provided love and companionship to Lula for many decades. Jack and Lula were inseparable as they shared many good times together. In Lula's later years, Jack provided spiritual and physical support as they shared many beautiful memories together. Lula was a long time member of the St. George Greek Orthodox church where she became involved with the Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Soter and sister, Rose Ann Economos.

Lu is survived by her beloved companion, Jack Linderman; first cousin, Zack Zazas (Kathy); brother-in-law, John J. Economos; nephews,Tom (Nancy), Ted (Alicia), and Steve (Jennifer) Economos, and their children; and step-daughter, Theodorea Fries of Rockford, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staffs at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice Johnston where she spent her final days. ~ The Des Moines Register Legacy, Des Moines, Iowa 6 Apr 2015.
