Dick was a Christian, and was born again in 1957. Over the years, he served his Lord as a deacon, church treasurer, trustee, usher, missions committee member, Sunday School teacher, and young peoples' game director. He was known for his sense of humor, his commitment to the well-being and care of his family, and his spirit of good will in all his relationships.

He was preceded in death by his parents - Kenneth and Cordelia Evans of Waterloo, Iowa - and his wife of 47 years, Glenda Highsmith Evans.
