Alvin Case Services At Colfax Today
COLFAX – Funeral services were to be held this afternoon for Alvin Case, World War I veteran, who died at the Veteran’s hospital at Des Moines Sunday morning.
Case was the father of five sons, all Marines, who served in this war, one of them Pfc. Victor Case, making the supreme sacrifice in September of 1944 in the South Pacific.
Services were to be held at the Bumgardner Funeral chapel at Colfax at 2:30 this afternoon. Burial was to be in the Colfax cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ray Peterson, James Pratt, A. W. Carlson, Claude Rodgers, Melvin Guy and John Snook. Mrs. Alfred Tobias sang, accompanied by Mrs. George Rinker. The Rev. Stanley G. Williams, pastor of the Presbyterian church, was in charge, assisted by the American Legion.
Case was born in Grinnell, Ia., on June 2, 1897, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Case. He was married to Irene Rogers, who survives. Other survivors include the four sons, Norman, Keith and Kenneth who recently were honorably discharged from the service, and Richard, serving overseas with the marines. Also surviving is a grand daughter, Patricia, who makes her home with the elder Cases. Two brothers survive, Virgil and Harry.
Alvin was a veteran of World War I, serving overseas 10 months as a sergeant. He resided in Colfax for 21 years, and followed the electrician’s profession.
