R. G. Clark, 64, Colfax, Killed In Rail Accident
COLFAX – Ream G. Clark, 64, of Colfax, who has been working at the Des Moines ordnance plant engaging in salvage work, was one of two men killed Saturday morning at 11:15 o’clock when the open railroad car, loaded with scrap iron on which he and several other salvage workers were riding, upset, pinning the victims beneath.
The railway car left the tracks and upset in a ditch while being pulled around a corner on the trackage inside the ordnance plant. The fatal car was jacked up by workers a short time later to permit removal of the bodies.
The twin deaths were only the second and third to occur at the ordnance plant since it went into operation and in which highly dangerous munitions of war were produced and shipped to the various war theatres.
Mr. Clark and his wife, the former Ethel Ward, had lived in Colfax for a number of years and had moved to Mitchellville several years ago. Approximately one week ago, however, the couple had removed to Colfax.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Ralph who is a farmer west of Mingo and Donald, who is with the telephone company at Mitchellville.
Funeral services will be held from the Barr Undertaking parlors at Mitchellville with interment in that city.
