Leona (Monster) Vander Molen, 87, of Pella died Monday, Nov. 29, at the Oakwood Nursing & Rehab Center in Albia.
A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Calvary Reformed Church in Pella. Interment will follow at the Graceland Cemetery in Pella.
Visitation will begin Thursday afternoon at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home, where the family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Leona Monster was the youngest of five children that were born to Leendert J. and Julia Hackert Monster. She was born on January 23, 1923, in Marion County, south of Pella, Iowa. Leona attended the Pleasant Grove Country School.
On July 7, 1942, she was united in marriage with William Vander Molen who had just been inducted into the United States Army. They were married in the chapel at Fort Riley, Kansas during World War II and Bill was discharged in November of 1945. To this union two sons were born: Marvin Leon and Duane Leroy.
Leona and Bill lived most of their married life in the Pella vicinity. In 1954 Bill began working at Vermeer Manufacturing Company as a factory employee and at the time of his retirement in 1985 was involved in international sales. Leona truly loved life and her family. In June, 2004 she became a resident at the Oakwood Nursing & Rehab Center in Albia, Iowa where she passed away Monday, November 29, 2010, at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 6 days.
Surviving are her two sons: Marvin Vander Molen of Pella and his three children, Aaron, Wade and Alicia; Duane Vander Molen and his wife, Donna of Orlando, Florida and their four children, Julia, Rita, Brian and Billy; and the following great-grandchildren: Oceon, Shamus and Maddie. Of her original family Leona leaves her brother, Henry Monster and his wife, Catharina of Pella; and the following sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Rachel (Vander Molen) and Cornie (Case) Vander Hart, Martena (Vander Molen) De Groot, Sylvia ( Cecil Vander Molen) Langstraat, Mabel Vander Molen all of Pella, and Nellie (Jacob) Vander Molen of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, William, on February 4, 1991; a four month old grandson, Michael Vander Molen in 1977; her parents, her mother, Julia, in 1961 and her father, Leendert, in 1965; her brother, Jacob Monster, and two sisters: Cornelia (Martin) Vink and Jeannetta ( Marion) Vander Linden; and her parents-in-law, Martin and Tillie Ozinga Vander Molen.
Leona was baptized at the Third Reformed Church in Pella where later she professed her faith along with her husband, Bill, when he was home on furlough in 1944. At the time of her death she was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa.
