Sarah E. Richardson, age 74, of 1160 East olive Street in Marshalltown, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at Eldora Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Eldora.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 14, 2001, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with Pastor Edwin Hannahs of Fellowship Baptist Church officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Sarah Edna was born April 30, 1928, in Denison, Kansas, The daughter of Jerry H. & Ila. N. (Hunt) Sanders. She grew up i the Denison area and graduated from the Circleville High School. She was married to Zenith R. Richardson, April 2, 1946 in Mingo, Iowa. They moved to Marshalltown in 1951. Sarah worked as a grocery clerk for many years, but retired in 1990 from the Marshall County Sheriff's Department where she had been employed as a bookkeeper for 12 years. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, Marshalltown, where she also was a choir member.

She is survived by her five sons: Jerry (Karen) Richardson of Eagan, Minnesota, Jimmy (Catherine) Richardson of Marshalltown; Joseph (Robin) Richardson of LeGrand; John (Deborah) Richardson of Letts; and Jeffrey (Nina) Richardson of Rockford, Illinois; three brothers: Jerry Sanders of Topeka, Kansas; John "Bill" (Maxine) Sanders of Holton, Kansas and Tommy (Darlene) Richardson of Topeka, Kansas; two sisters: Grace (Mrs. Morton) Oelke of Topeka, Kansas and Nellie Larabie of Sabetha, Kansas; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Zenith in 2001, grandsons, Jesse Richardson and a brother: Walter Sanders. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, December 20, 2001
