Cora I. Price

Cora Irene Price, age 94, of Colfax died Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at Clearview Manor in Prairie City from complications of cancer. Funeral services were held Friday, July 13, 2001 at 10:30 at the Prairie City United Methodist Church with Pastor John Poe officiating. Burial was in the Vandalia Cemetery. Memorials may be donated to the Prairie City United Methodist church.

Cora Irene Price was born on March 26, 1907 in Williamsburg, Iowa the daughter of Evan and Nora (White) Mullnix. She graduated from Williamsburg high school. She was baptized in the Williamsburg Methodist Church at the age of 17. She was married to Leslie Eugene Price. To this union was born a daughter, Corinne Price Osborn. Cora lived in Des Moines most of her adult life and until six years ago when she moved to rural Colfax were she lived with her daughter in the home of Penny and Art Slings. She spent the final year of her life at Clearview Manor in Prairie city. Cora was a 50 year member of the Des Moines Chapter #89 of the order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Highland Park #374 American Legion. During World War II she worked in the Ankeny defense plant. She was also employed by the National Movie Screen Company until they relocated to Chicago. Cora was employed for a number of years at Glade Loan and eventually retired at age 72 from employment at National Handicraft. After retirement she became actively involved as a volunteer for the Foster Grandparent Program. In 1988, Cora was awarded the Foster Grandparent of the year by Gov. Terry Branstead. She had spent nine years in this program when failing eyesight forced her to leave.

Cora is survived by her daughter Corinne and two granddaughters, Penny Slings and her husband Arthur of Colfax and Paula Stockton and her husband Donald of Des Moines and a grandson, Michael of Des Moines. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, two great great grandsons, four step grandchildren , six step great grandchildren as well as a sister, Fern Kuhnle of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Lester, Warren, Wayne and Levi, a sister Merwin Witte and a son in law Eugene Osborn. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, July 29, 2001
