Dixie Lee (Smith) Northway, 61, of Newton, formerly of Colfax, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Careage of Newton.
A memorial graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at Colfax Cemetery. A memorial visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at Coburn Funeral Home of Colfax with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The daughter of William and Rosalie (Dimon) Smith, Dixie was born on July 12, 1949 in Newton. Dixie was a 1968 graduate of Colfax High School. While in school, Dixie was a standout athlete in softball and track. She won the Female Athlete of the Year award her senior year. Dixie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Those left to honor her memory are her children, Bret Northway of Lineville, Iowa; and Brandi Karas of Baxter; siblings, Deborah (Ed) Day of Newton; Doug (Pam) Smith of Sheldahl, Iowa; Duane Smith of Colfax; and Dennis Smith of Colfax; four grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Henry, and Emma; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be given to the Dixie Northway Memorial Fund.
