Bessie Reeves Headlee, 85, a longtime Prairie City resident, died Monday, June 8, 1992 at Des Moines General Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11 at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church south of Prairie City. The Rev. Alvin Kinrade, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City handled arrangements.
Memorials to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church or the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association are being accepted.
Survivors are a son, L. Gayle of Ozark, Missouri; a daughter, Bettye (Mrs. Jim) Welcher of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Guy Reeves of Monroe; and three sisters, hazel Morgan of Prairie City, Effie Gregory of Lufkin, Texas, and Frances Van Ryswyk of Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Evan, in 1937, two sisters, a brother and a great-granddaughter.
Mrs. Headlee had been employed by the Iowa Motor Vehicle Division for 25 years, had taught school, and was a beautician. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
The daughter of Fred and Octavia Gobel Reeves, she was born April 2, 1907 in Swan and was graduated from Swan High School, the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls and Iowa Beauty School in Des Moines.
She was married to Evan Leo Headlee October 6, 1919 in Ivy.
