Messmaker, Dale J. – 1918-1991

Dale J. Messmaker, 73, a lifelong resident of Prairie City, died Wednesday, November 27, 1991 at Clearview Manor. As a Marine he was stationed at Pearl harbor during the Japanese bombing December 7, 1941.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 30 at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. The Rev. Al Kinrade, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Tim Peter, pastor of the Church of the Brethren south of Prairie City, conducted the services. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery at Prairie City. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City handled arrangements.
Memorials to the Prairie City United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa are being accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Ola Mae “Holly”; and two sisters, Marjorie Brewer of Prairie City and Dorothy Peto of Bakersfield, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.
Mr. Messmaker had served in the Marine Corps for six years before and during World War II. He was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church, Preston Masonic Lodge, and Booth-DeVries American Legion Post.
He was a former member of the Prairie City city Council, and had been a member of the Prairie City volunteer fire department.
Mr. Messmaker was in the carpentry business, and had been a sales representative for Iowa Clay Products and Neenah Foundries.
The son of John and Mintha Griffoen Messmaker, he was born June 24, 1918 in Prairie City and was a 1936 graduate of Prairie City Community High School.
He was married to Ola Mae Van Arkel March 4, 1945 in Prairie City.
