Truman S. Thompson, 71, of Monroe, Monroe city treasurer for a number of years, died Thursday, March 19, 1992 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, at Monroe United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerry McGee, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery at Monroe. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe handled arrangements.
Memorials to the Monroe Kiwanis Club are being accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Bonnie; two sons, Van of Englewood, Colorado, and Val of Knoxville; two daughters, Jill (Mrs. Doug) Hopkins of Prairie City and Judy (Mrs. Dave) Peterson of Altoona; five grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and a brother, Bert Thompson of Sun Lake, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marian.
In addition to his position as city treasurer, Mr. Thompson was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and a member and treasurer of the Monroe Kiwanis Club.
A resident of Monroe since 1953, he received the Dean Vaught Community Service Award during the 1972 Monroe Old Settlers Reunion.
He had been employed at PGS Seeds in Monroe for 30 years prior to his retirement.
The son of Thomas and Ida Sime Thompson, he was born October 2, 1920 in Garden City and was a 1938 graduate of Radcliffe High School.
Mr. Thompson attended the American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines.
He was married to Bonnie Erickson June 9, 1946 in Ames.
