Gijsbertje “Grace” Sterk Vos, 86, a resident of Clearview Manor in Prairie City since January 1987, died Tuesday, December 22, 1992 at the facility.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 26 at Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. The Rev. Donald W. Plantinga, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery in Pella. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella handled arrangements.
Memorials to Clearview Manor or the Prairie City ambulance service are being accepted.
Survivors are two sons, Bernard of Allen, Texas, and Larry of Wichita, Kansas; four daughters, Marjorie (Mrs. Marion D.) Van Haaften of Otley, Beverly (Mrs. Leroy) Nugteren of rural Leighton, Janice (Mrs. Bob) Bruxvoort of Mitchellville and Nancy (Mrs. Delwin) Van Zante of rural Otley; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Also surviving are two brothers, Cornie Sterk of Montezuma and Pete Sterk of Harrison, Arkansas; and three sisters, Nellie (Mrs. Jay W.) Valdhuizen and Johanna Shinkel, both of Oskaloosa, and Gertrude Brower of Pella.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lewis, a son, Wilbur D., a granddaughter, a great-grandson, and seven brothers, three in infancy and Ben, John, Tunis and William Sterk.
Mrs. Vos farmed with her husband in the Pella area until they moved into Pella in 1954. She had also been employed in the food service department at Central College in Pella from 1954 to 1976.
The daughter of Dielis and Berendina Vroegh Sterk, she was born September 9, 1906 in the village of Herwijnen, province of Gelderland, The Netherlands. She moved with her family to the United States in 1912 and they settled in the Pella area. Mrs. Vos was graduated from the Black Oak Center Country Grade School there.
She was married to lewi9s Abraham Vos march 23, 1926 in Prairie City.
She had also lived in Prairie Village and Hilltop Manor South, both in Pella.
