Cornelius Wyma, 70, of 407 Sunrise Park, Pella, a former Prairie City area resident, died Sunday morning, August 2, 1992 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of injuries sustained in an automobile accident July 29.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5 at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. The Rev. John Gorter, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Military services were held at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella handled arrangements.
Memorials to Mission Walk International (aid to needy Mexican children) or the Red Rock New Voice Club (in care of Leonard Vande Lune) are being accepted.
Survivors are three sons: Clarence William of Sully, Roger Lee of Pella, and Duane Alan of Edwards, Colorado; three daughters: Helen Faye (Mrs. Jim) Terlouw, Connie Lou (Mrs. Wes) Van Wyk, and Joyce Elaine (Mrs. Ed) Olson, all of Pella; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Also surviving are six sisters: Charlotte Le Rette of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Anna (Mrs. Elmer) Van Maaren and Sadie (Mrs. James) Kamerick, both of Pella, Shirley (Mrs. Carl) Dhaene of Gowan, Michigan, Dorothy (Mrs. Carl) Mitchell of Wyoming, Michigan, and Betty (Mrs. Loren) Williams of Pella.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, his mother November 18, 1976, his father May 13, 1963, and two brothers, Henry December 14, 1936 and Albert November 10, 1983.
Mr. Wyma was an Army veteran of World War II, and had served in the Pacific, including the Philippines, Japan and the New Hebrides.
After his discharge he worked as a hired hand for Fred Maasdam in the Sully area, then started farming north of Pella. He later farmed near Prairie City before moving back to the Pella area in 1964.
He retired in 1967, and following this he worked for several businesses in Pella including the Coast to Coast Store and Rolscreen Co. In later years he and his wife made deliveries for T. L. Co. and Ring-O-Matic in Pella.
The son of Henry and Effie Spoelstra Wyma, he was born December 19, 1921 near Flint ridge School northeast of Pella.
He was married to Wilma Louise Van Maaren September 7, 1942 at Little Rock, Arkansas, where he was stationed in the Army.
