Howard C. Young, 84, a livelong resident of the Prairie City-Monroe area, died Saturday, December 7, 1991 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 10 at the Monroe First Baptist Church. The Rev. Eldon Pals of Newton conducted the services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe handled arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Marguerite; three sons, Dwight of Huntington Beach, California, Hugh of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and Myron of London, England; a daughter, Marvel Jane Gillaspie of Monroe; and 11 grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Harry of Prairie City; and two sisters, Mildred Meckley of Prairie City and Geneva Wallace of Waco, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ruth Taylor, and a daughter, Linda Beth, in infancy.
Mr. Young was manager of Young Farms, Inc., and had been involved in road graveling and drainage construction prior to that.
Mr. Young was a member of the Morgan Valley Christian Church, the Iowa State Historical Society, the Iowa Farm Bureau and the Iowa Soybean Association.
The son of Bert and Beatrice Charls Young, he was born June 5, 1907 in Prairie City. He was a 1926 graduate of Prairie City Community High School and Iowa State University in Ames.
He was married to Marguerite Kool in 1933.
