Helen Martin, age 83, Baxter died February 19, 2001, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 23, 2001, at Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter, at 11:00 AM, with rev. Rollin Watters of Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was at Restland Cemetery, Baxter, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

She was born May 9, 1917, at Seattle, Washington the daughter of George and Margaret Allan Tefferteller. They moved to the Baxter area during her infancy, where she attended the Baxter Schools, graduating from high school in the Des Moines School System in 1935. She was married to Woodrow "Woody" Martin on March 31, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. She worked in the shipyards for a short time, and later worked in electronics with M.S.I. for fifteen years. She was fond of gardening, flowers, and coconut cream pie.

She is survived by her daughter Bettyjean (Mrs. Ron) Lamison, Baxter, Companion Harlan Huffaker, Baxter, Iowa, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Woody in 1982, Son-Raymond Martin, Sr. in 1066, and one brother. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, March 1, 2001
