Mabel B. Schwarz, 86, of Newton, died Sunday, February 25, 2001 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 28 at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Jim Olson of Zoar Church in Newton, officiating. Burial was at Newton Memorial Park Cementer.

Mabel was born July 30, 1914 in Maxwell, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Etta Mae Fugard Hammer. She was a 1932 graduate of Laurel High School. Mabel married J. (John) C. Schwarz on October 17, 1932 and has been a lifelong resident of Jasper County since that year.

She was a member of the Zoar Church and she worked at the Maytag Dairy Farm where she was a supervisor in the packaging department, retiring in 1983. She continued to Work several holiday seasons after retiring.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Cliff and Darlene Schwarz of Baxter and Frank Schwarz of Newton; one daughter, Shirley Heck of Newton; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J. C. in 1976; two brothers and three sisters.
