Hal G. Murphy

Hal G. Murphy, age 54, of Baxter died Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, Marshalltown, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, 2001 at Evangelical Free church, with Rev. Eugene Bucklin, officiating. Burial was at Restland Cemetery, Baxter Iowa. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Hal was born January 22, 1947, at Marshalltown, Iowa the son of Charles Wilson and Doris Valeria (Rubottom) Murphy. He grew up in the Laurel area and graduated from Semco High School in 1965. He was married to Linda Lee Townsend, February 12, 1966 in Durand, Michigan. They moved to Baxter in 1966. Hal served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Kittyhawk from 1965 until 1969. He has worked at Fisher Controls for 37 years. Hal was also a co-owner of T&M Center Lanes in Newton from 1983-1991. He was a member of the V.F.W., Corvette Club of Ames, American Bowling Association, and the U.A.W. Local 893, where he was currently a steward.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Murphy of Baxter, son, Bob Murphy of Baxter, daughter, Tracy Murphy of Urbandale; brothers, William (Bobbie) Murphy, Orange, California, Larry (Cheryl) Murphy, Marshalltown, Iowa; Tom (Charlene) Murphy of Laurel and Dan (Beth) Murphy of Laurel and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents and a grandson Andrew Murphy. ~ Jasper County Tribune, June 21, 2001
