Florence Pfantz

Florence Pfantz, 99, of rural State Center, died Tuesday, October 2 at the State Center Nursing Home and Rehab Center.

Services were held October 5, 2001 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Ronald Drage officiating. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery in State Center. A memorial fund is established and may be directed to the family.

Florence was born in Baxter on May 29, 1902 the daughter of Abraham and Caroline Kaiser Dahlem. She was confirmed with members of the Bethany Reformed Church, rural Baxter in 1917.

On June 10, 1925 in Baxter she was united in marriage to Ralph Pfantz, who preceded her in death in December of 1992.

Survivors include two children: Ivan and Janie Pfantz of rural State Center and Doris (Floyd) Ritland of Zearing.

Also surviving are twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Pfantz was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter Doreen Thompson.

Reared and educated in Baxter, she graduated from High school in 1921. She attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and obtained her teaching certificate and then taught in rural Marshall County schools for three years and one year in Clemons. Following their marriage she helped her husband farm near French Grove for over 50 years.

Her memberships include the St. Paul Lutheran Church of State Center and the St. Paul Afternoon Circle. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, October 11, 2001
