A funeral service for Delores M. Armstrong of Newton will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorials in Delores’ name are being designated to Hospice of Jasper County or the American Cancer Society.
Delores Maxine Armstrong, 92, the daughter of Charles and Rose (Sego) Logsdon, was born July 14, 1918, in Baxter, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Mingo, Iowa, Senior High School, Class of 1936.
On Aug. 6, 1938, Delores was united in marriage with Charles Robinson at the Mingo United Methodist Church. To this union two children were born: a daughter, Rose, and son, Richard. They made their home on a farm near Mingo. Charles would precede her in death. Delores had worked as a clerk at Spurgeon and Stockton Stores. She was united in marriage with Tunis Armstrong on Sept. 30, 1975, at the First Baptist Church in Newton. She devoted her life to her husband and family and enjoyed her family, friends, going to church and playing cards.
Delores died on Saturday evening, Oct. 23, 2010, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Charles and Tunis; a brother. Frank; 10 sisters, Mildred, Blanch, Vona, Adia, Irene Helsene, Vella Helsene, Vera Perin, Helen Bosak, Hazel Crittenden and her twin sister, Doris Borts.
Those left to honor Delores’ memory include her daughter Rose Pherigo of Kellogg, Iowa; her son, Richard Robinson of Mills River, N.C.; granddaughters, Kelie Green, Jayne Collett, Courtney Robinson and Judy Crosser; her two great-granddaughters, Jennifer and Stephanie; two great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews; her special friends, Nadine Stoulil, Donna Walsh, Edna Edge, Ramona Osborn and Heidi Vander Schel; and many good neighbors and friends.
A special thanks to her niece, Gerri Garton, who was there when Delores needed help.
