David R. Conn

David R. Conn, 78, a resident of Newton since November, 1963, died July 12, at the Skiff Medical Center following a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 15 at Wallace Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Joseph Babcock, retired pastor of the Foursquare Church, conducted the services.

Burial was in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors are his wife, Muriel M.; a son, Robert I. of Newton; a daughter, Janet L. (Mrs. Larry) Roush of Newton; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, John of Grinnell, Lindsey of Wausau, Wis., and Andrew of Colfax; six sisters, Marjorie (Mrs. Willie) Beyer of Newton, Grace Brady of Villa Park, Ill., Florence Verripps of Pella, Robinette Van Arkel of Altoona, Agnes (Mrs. Jim) Pease of Colfax and Beverley (Mrs. Gordon) Shissler of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, Richard, Cornie and Ronald, Two brothers, Edward and James, and a sister, Mildred Carnahan.

Mr. Conn, a member of the Izaak Walton League and United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union, had been a truck driver and was employed as a machine shop laborer at the Maytag Co., from 1949 until retiring in August, 1979.

The son of Robert and Nora Sullivan Conn, he was born March 7, 1917 in rural Lynnville.

He was married to Muriel M. Montgomery March 12, 1933 in Oskaloosa. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Colfax, Ia., Thursday, July 20, 1995
