Lois Staker Services Held

Lois Staker, 83, of Riverside Manor in Ames, a former resident of Jasper County, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the manor.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the Mingo United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Kevin Leveck, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in the Greencastle Cemetery.

Organist was Mrs. Dale Harter.

Casket bearers were Charles Cutler, Jeff Staker, Craig Staker, Kelvin Frahm, Don Stiles, and Bob Cutler.

Walters Coburn Funeral Home of Colfax handled arrangements.

Survivors are a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

Miss Staker was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Order of Eastern Star, and a life member of both the National Education Association and the Iowa State Education Association.

She was a principal and teacher and coached the Mingo girls' basketball team to a state tournament berth in the 1930's. She also taught at Ruthven and was in the guidance testing department of the Scott County Superintendent's office until her retirement in 1972.

The daughter of Frank and Carrie Baker Staker, she was born Dec. 14, 1904 at Mingo. A graduate of Mingo Community High School, she attended Des Moines University and received her master's degree from the University of Iowa at Iowa City.

She resided for many years in Davenport and lived in California for three years before returning to Jasper County recently. ~ The Jasper County Tribune Dec 25, 1986
