Monroe, March 29 – Special to The Daily News – Funeral services for Charles Burton Wright of Long Beach, Calif., were held at the Methodist Episcopal church Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock with the pastor, Reverend Hesseltine, officiating.
Miss Winona Tharp and Mrs. O. M. Wilson sang “In The Garden,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “It is Well With My Soul,” accompanied by Mrs. Gloyd at the piano. Pallbearers were C. A. Long, George Kipp, J. A. Murray, A. E. Palmer, Harry Worth and Clyde Fouch.
Charles Burton Wright, son of Joseph and Victorine Wright, was born in Ohio July 13, 1864, and died March 10, 1933, at his home in Long Beach, Calif., at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 27 days.
On Feb. 14, 1889, he was united in marriage to Mary L. Custer. For many years he was in the mercantile business in Monroe in partnership with his two brothers in law, John and Charley Custer. He was affiliated with the Masonic, I.O.O.F. and Modern Woodmen orders.
During the year 1914, he and Mrs. Wright moved to Long Beach, Calif., where they made their home. His death was caused from shock due to the recent earthquake. He had suffered from heart disease for several months.
One brother, Art Wright preceded him in death. He is survived by his widow; a brother, Clyde, of Newton, and three sisters, Mrs. Cora Balmer of Indianola, Mrs. Ella Gifford of Des Moines and Ada Wright of Monroe. The later had spent the past several months in the Wright home at Long Beach and accompanied the body to Monroe.
Interment was in the Monroe cemetery.
