Baxter, March 29 – Special to The Daily News – Funeral services for Thomas Downing, who died near Newton Sunday, March 12, were held Thursday afternoon, March 16, at 2:00 o’clock from the Boyd Funeral home in Baxter. Rev. Byron W. Northup of the Congregational church was in charge. Interment was made in Kintz cemetery west of Baxter.
David Thomas Downing was born in Ohio May 18, 1855, and died at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 24 days. He was married in 1880 to Mary Kline. One son, who died in infancy, was born. Mrs. Downing died in 1883. The remainder of his life was spent in Jasper and Story counties.
He is survived by four brothers, William of Springfield, Mo., John of Lamar, Colo., Ellsworth of Collins and Grant of State Center and two sisters, Mrs. E. F. Day of Collins and Mrs. George Meade of State Center.
