Monroe, March 29 – Special to The Daily News – Mrs. Veva Jarnagin died Tuesday evening, March 21, at the home of Mrs. Emma Kitchen. Although she had been ill during the winter and had suffered several heart attacks, she had rallied and had been able to be up. The fatal attack was suffered on Sunday, March 18.
Funeral services were held at the Kitchen home Friday afternoon, March 24, at 2:00 o’clock with her pastor, Reverend Hesseltine, in charge. Miss Winona Tharp and Mrs. O. M. Wilson sang “There is a Land,” and “Now the Day is Over,” accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Gloyd. Burial was in the Allen lot in the Monroe cemetery.
Veva Brown, daughter of Silas Melvin and Clara C. Huddleston Brown, was born in Monroe Aug. 20, 1879, and died at the age of 53 years, 7 months and 1 day.
On Nov. 19, 1902, she was united in marriage to Clarence Allen. To this union three children were born, two of whom died in infancy. Her husband also preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1918. On Dec. 7, 1926, she was united in marriage to Henry Jarnagin of Monroe.
Two sisters, Miss Lena Targgart and Mrs. Martha Targgart Hill, also have preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Henry Jarnagin; one son, Eugene Allen; a brother, Mel Brown on Riverside, Calif., a brother, Hubert Targgart and a sister, Blanche Targgart, both of Fargo, N.D.; an uncle, Lucian Huddleston of Des Moines, and an aunt, Mrs. Ada Roberts of California.
She was a member of the Woman’s club, the Methodist Guild and the O.E.S. the latter attending the services in a group. In early life she was converted and joined the Monroe Met6hodist church and continued as active member until her death.
Relatives and friends from out of town at the services were Hubert and Blanche Targgart of Fargo, N.D., Mr. and Mrs. Harry Huddleston of Nevada, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Lucian Huddleston of Des Moines and Mrs. C. B. Westbrook, Mrs. O. B. Kipp and Mrs. Alice Snoke, all of Newton.
Pallbearers were William LaGrand, George Sheeler, James Williams, Lee Williams, George Kipp and Ira Scarbrough.
