Spears, Mary Jane Yoakum – 1850-1933

Monroe, March 29 – Special to The Daily News – Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Spears were held Thursday afternoon, March 23, at 2:00 o’clock at the Methodist Episcopal church with the pastor, Reverend Hesseltine, officiating.
Mary Jane Yoakum, daughter of Isaac and Caroline Wiseman Yoakum, was born near Monroe June 27, 1850, and died at her home in Monroe March 20, 1938, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 23 days. She had been ill for several months.
On March 3, 1871, she was united in marriage to Henry Worth. Two sons were born, Milton, who lived with his mother, and Zora, who died Sept. 7, 1926. On July 5, 1900, she was united in marriage to Alex Spears, who died Feb. 6, 1902.
She is survived by her son, Elton; one grandchild, Frederick Worth; three sisters, Mrs. Juliet Yoakum, Mrs. Callie Fouch of Monroe and Mrs. Linnie Ward of California, and three brothers, William, Isaac and Tom.
In early life she united with the Baptist church, but in 1894 transferred to the Methodist.
Music for the funeral services was furnished by Miss Tharp, accompanied by Mrs. R. B. Gloyd at the piano. Pallbearers were Clyde Fouch, George Kane, Robert Roush, George Worth, William Mullins, and N. O. Worth, all nephews. Interment was in the Monroe cemetery.
