Levi Irwin, one of the Prominent pioneer farmers of the county died last evening at 6 o’clock at his farm home near Baxter after an illness of more than one year suffering from Bright’s disease and heart trouble.
Mr. Irwin has been in a critical condition since Sunday evening and his friends have been expecting death since then. All of his children were at his bedside when the end came.
Mr. Irwin was born in Ohio 85 years ago March 16, and moved to Jasper county 54 years ago from the east, settling near Baxter close to the Wittemberg neighborhood. There he has lived and reared his family and has been a power for the good in his community. His interests have always been for better conditions in agriculture and all during his life he has worked toward that end. He was a consistent member of the Wittemberg church.
Mrs. Irwin, his wife, died two years ago but he and his son Virgil have continued to live on the home place.
He leaves two daughters, Mrs. W. O. Moore and Mrs. G. W. Moore, of near here and his son Virgil and one brother, W. H. Irwin of Ohio.
Funeral services will probably be held Sunday afternoon but no definite announcements have yet been made.
