Mirror – John Longdin was born in Greasbro, England on the 11th day of January, 1835, and died at his home in Otley, May 12, at the age of 76 years, 5 months and one day. He was married to Jane Shackelton October 7, 1857, at Scheffield, England, and came to America with his family in 1882 when they went to Stayton, Minnesota, in 1883 they came to Iowa, and have been resident of Otley for 22 years, where his wife died May 11, 1903. Nine children were born to them, three sons and six daughters, 4 of whom are dead and 5 left to mourn the loss of a loving and devoted father. They are James E. Longdin, Flagler; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shaw, of Raurmarsh, England; Mrs. Joshua Willey, of Seevers; John J. Longdin of Otley; and Mrs. I. N. Harp of Otley. Mr. Longdin was of a cheerful disposition and bore his suffering with great patience. He was a faithful member of the K. of P. order, also the Red Men of Colfax, and the U. M. W. of A. of Otley. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Sunday at 11 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Albert Vanderploeg, pastor of the Colfax Baptist church.
