Aged Pioneer Dies Friday
Funeral Services to Take Place Tomorrow Morning in Lynnville, Iowa
Joseph Youngkin, pioneer settler of Jasper county, died Friday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. L. Moley, in Des Moines where he has been living for the past 10 years.
Mr. Younkin has been ill but a short time when death occurred.
Joseph Youngkin was born at Franktown, Pennsylvania, January 1, 1830. In 1853 he was married to Elizabeth Smith and together they came to Scott county in 1841 where they lived until 1871 when they moved to Jasper county and settled on a farm near Kellogg, Iowa, where they lived until the family moved to Sully, Iowa in 1897. Mr. Younkin lived in Sully until the death of his wife June 16, 1908.
For the past 10 years he has lived in Des Moines with his daughter, Mrs. Eliza Moley and family where he has been most tenderly cared for.
Mr. Younkin was a member of the I.O.O.F. fraternity and was one of the oldest members of the organization. He was also a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
Mr. Youngkin leaves to mourn his death David Youngkin, of Omaha; Susan Youngkin, of Los Angeles, California; John Youngkin of Richfield, Idaho; Sarah Youngkin, of Lander, Wyoming; Eliza Moley and Scherl C. Youngkin, of Des Moines. Sons Elizie and Grant preceded him in death several years ago.
Funeral services for Mr. Youngkin will be held at the home of his grandson, Roy Youngkin at Lynnville Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock. The services will be in charge of the Odd Fellows.
Burial will be made in Woodland cemetery at Lynnville, Iowa, by the side of his wife.
