A Sad Death
Gussie H. Pound, only sister of J. T. Pound, died at the home of Joseph Brown, in this city Wednesday morning at 5:35, age twenty-three years, four months and live days. Miss Pound’s death was unexpected, as she had been around the house only the day before and had been on the street, three days ago. It was a very sad death and a terrible blow to her devoted brother.
Miss Gussie was born in Canada in 1873 and had been in Newton about four months, being brought here from Pueblo, by her brother. She had held a responsible position in Boston, two years previous and was advised by her physician to go to Pueblo for her health. Since coming to Newton she has been much better and was expecting to start for her home in a few days, when her heart became affected caused from a complication of diseases and she entered death’s dark door.
She was the only daughter in a family of five and her death causes the first break in the family. She was a sweet and a patient sufferer. J. R. Pound, of Audubon, an uncle, her only relative in Iowa, except her brother, attended the funeral. The other members of the family could not attend. The services were held at the Episcopal church at four o’clock yesterday evening by Rector Ryan and the remains laid to rest in Newton cemetery. The Masons and K. P’s attended in a body.
J. T. Pound wishes to thank his many friends for their kind acts and help during the sickness and death of Miss Gussie H. Pound, his sister.
