Funeral held for former resident

Gertrude Owen, 80, of Pella passed away Sept. 20, 1985, at Pella Community Hospital. The daughter of Dick and Hattie Van Kampen Bruxvoort, she was born Dec. 24, 1904, in Sully. She grew up in the Sully area and went to school at the Sully Christian Grade School. Sept. 17, 1927, she was united in marriage to Gerritt Lourens. To this union two children were born. Oct. 18, 1958, she was united in marriage to Harold Owen in Pella. She was also employed in the office at Rolscreen and was a member of the Third Reformed Church.

She is survived by a son, Arnold Chester Lourens of Van Meter, a daughter, H. Jean Nieboer of Omaha, NE; stepson, Wally Gaddis of Daytona Beach, Fl; nine grandchildren; Darrel Lourens, Sheryl Lourens Kain, Merlin Clemmenson, Lori Lourens Button, Schoot Lourens, Audrey Lourens, Julie Lourens, Allen Lourens, and Pam Nieboer Adams; four brothers: Gerrit Bruxvoort of Pella, Jake Bruxvoort of Newton, Guy Bruzvoort of Pella, and Herman Bruxvoort of Newton; a sister, Bernice Meinders of Pella; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; and five sisters: Lizzie Slater, Nellie Van Wyk, Hattie Olsthoorn, Jennie Jochems, and Effie Bruxvoort.

Funeral service was held Mon., Sept. 23, at 1:30 p.m. at Pella Third Reformed Church. Officiating was Dr. Delmar Thiesse.

"In the Garden" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" were sung by Judy Steenhoek. Mrs. Everett Vandenberg was organist.

Casket bearers were: Darrel Lourens, Scott Lourens, Bob Kain, Danny Button, Glayton Adams, and Harold Meinders.

Interment was in Sully Cemetery.
