Baxter, March 28 – Special to The Daily News – Funeral services for Lewis Miller, who died at 6:15 o’clock Thursday evening, March 16, at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown after a week’s illness, were held Monday afternoon, March 20, at the Miller home at 1:30 o’clock, with further services at 2:00 o’clock from the Bethany Reformed church. Rev. D. E. Bosma, pastor of the church, was in charge, assisted by Rev. B. W. Northrup of the Baxter Congregational church.
Music for the home services was furnished by the Misses Crete Tipton, Catherine Kline and Ilo Cammack. A men’s quartet furnished music for the rites at the church. Pallbearers were J. Y. Allan, H. t. Phillips, Donnell Deutch, Ted Deutch, Will Stock and Charles Cool Interment was made in Restland cemetery. Mrs. J. Y. Allan, Miss Daisy Allan, Mrs. Donnell Deutch and Mrs. John Boyd were in charge of the flowers.
Lewis Harold Miller was born in Jasper county, Iowa, Nov. 7, 1904, the son of Herman and Elizabeth Miller. When he was not quite six years old, his mother died, and the preceding year an infant brother also died.
He attended the Baxter public school and the Bethany Reformed church school and was confirmed with a class in June 1919. He was a member of the graduating class of Baxter High school of 1924.
Following the completion of his school work, he accepted a position with the State Savings bank. On July 5, 1927, he was united in marriage to Miss Robina Johnston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnston. The following fall they moved to the Henry Wintermeier farm, where they lived until Mr. Miller’s untimely death.
A daughter, Marlene Marilyn, was born on Jan. 3, 1932.
He is survived by his widow and daughter, his father, Herman Miller, his grandfather, August Wintermeier, and many other relatives and close friends.
