Dies Alone in Home While Husband Works
Mrs. Harrison Scott was found dead in her home yesterday afternoon about 2:30.
A man went there to deliver some coffee and went to the kitchen door as was his custom. The door was open and Mrs. Scott lay on the floor where she had fallen with her feet toward the stove.
Some of the neighbors were notified and Dr. Landis was called. When he arrived he called the Coroner who states that it looked as tho Mrs. Scott was standing by the stove when she was stricken with apoplexy and probably died before her body reached the floor.
In his judgment she had been dead for several hours, perhaps since nine or ten in the morning. No inquest was held.
Mr. Scott hauls coal and has been taking his dinner with him. He left at the usual hour yesterday and his wife took his dinner to the wagon for him before he left and was not seen by the neighbors during the forenoon although they thot nothing of it until afternoon.
Mrs. Scott’s maiden name was Minerva Smith. She was born July 8, 1837 in Illinois. She was one of a large family. Her parents had some means when they came to Newton in 1874 and she was the last of the family except one brother whose whereabouts are unknown.
She was married Dec. 29th 1886 to Harrison Scott and they have lived in the same block in north Newton all the time since then. She had a happy disposition and was exceedingly kind hearted and generous.
There are no children and the only immediate relative in Newton is Mrs. Ursula Smith.
Mrs. Smith has several children and there are other nephews and nieces.
