Thelma Goughnour Rites Held Feb. 15

Funeral services for Thelma Blanch Bellon Goughnour, 78, of Des Moines, a former Jasper County resident, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax.

The Rev. John McKinstry, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Earl Barclay, conducted services.

The organist was Pat Evans, and the soloist was Susan Riley.

Casket bearers were Harold Dent, Donnie Bellon, Ramon Faidley, Doyle Kinser, Victor Bellon, and Robert Davis.

Ushers were Wilford Morrow and Durlyn Lester.

Graveside rites were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Allerton Cemetery.

Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax handled arrangements.

Memorials to the church will be accepted.

She died Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Survivors are a daughter, Ella Mae (Mrs. Larry) Baird of Des Moines; three grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia Dent of Corydon; and a brother, Earl Bellon of Corydon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Walter Goughnour, her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and a daughter, Darnell.

Mrs. Goughnour and her husband served a number of churches, including the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax from 1946 to 1952, and a church in Prairie City from 1963 until 1969.

She was a member of the Howard Street Christian Church and the Christian Women's Fellowship.

The daughter of Carl and Ella Hart Bellon, she was born July 22, 1913 in Corydon.

She was married to Walter Goughnour June 22, 1932 in Princeton, Mo.

Mrs. Goughnour also had resided in Colfax from 1971 until moving to Des Moines in 1982. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Thursday, February 20, 1992
