Postma, Kaye Jeanne – 1943-2010

Kaye Jeanne Kingery Postma, 66, passed away Sept. 20, 2010, in her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Kaye was born Oct. 11, 1943, in Cherokee, Iowa. She was a certified nurse’s aide and home health care aide and worked for the Baxter nursing home and Skiff Medical Center for nearly 25 years. Kaye was also an accomplished cook and competed for over 30 years at the Iowa State Fair, where she won many blue ribbons and represented the state of Iowa in the 1995 National Pillsbury Bake-Off contest in Atlanta, Ga. In addition, she wrote poetry and had several of her poems published in Lyrical Iowa and the CSS anthologies.
Kaye had a beautiful singing voice and knew the lyrics to nearly every song in the “Great American Songbook.” She was an avid reader and Scrabble player, loved to go fishing and canoeing, explore their country property with her cocker spaniels and watch the night sky as the seasons changed.
Those left to cherish Kaye’s memory, better known as “Gumby” to her grandchildren, are her husband of over 41 years, Jerry, of Rhodes; her sister, Rusti Riddle, and her husband, William, of Colfax; her son, Sean, and his wife, Sherri, also of Colfax; her daughter, Kirsten, formerly of Buffalo, N.Y.; her daughter, Gretchen Hall, and her husband, Les, of Grinnell; her grandchildren, Allison and Miranda Hall of Grinnell and Tara, Vanessa and Trevor Brown of Buffalo, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Kaye was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Jackie Kingery, and her sister, Judy Dodd.
A memorial service will be at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton on Sunday, Oct. 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in her name and left to her family.
Kaye requested that those attending her memorial service please wear bright colors rather than black.
